Friday Clinic
The team wrapped up our very successful week at Black River today. Our four providers ended up seeing over 1,000 patients and the dentists saw almost 200 and pulled over 370 teeth. We couldn't even keep up with the number of prescriptions we wrote, but we estimate that we gave out over 2,000 in five days. It has been a wonderful time with all our old friends in Black River and the new ones we made on this trip. The group from St. Joseph and Kansas have been blessed by the people and we started our day at the local Brompton School where they start each morning with Christian devotions and songs. The children seemed so happy. We will be having a dinner Friday evening to honor our Jamaica volunteer friends who helped at the clinic all week. Then, on Saturday, we travel to Montego Bay for a weekend of rest and recreation. Please pray for our safe journey in that the roads in Jamaica are quite the test of endurance for our driver.
Thursday Clinic
We made up for a slightly shorter work day on Wednesday by working from about 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. We had two teams again, and by mid-afternoon we had to send all of the medical staff to Holland to help with the overload there. Prior to leaving, Chery Wormington saw over 40 patients. The dentists had a banner day by pulling a record 110 teeth, with only two dentists. It was exhilarating to see how happy some of the patients were when they got some relief from pain. Each day makes us so happy we are here, but having fun can be exhausting. Thank you for following our journey with us.
Wednesday Clinic
We started the day as usual and then teams split up with most of the medical group going to Holland church. The dentistry team stayed at Cambridge and still managed to extract 67 teeth on a shortened day. Both teams ended up at the Holland church and then we all went to Treasure Beach for dinner to celebrate three birthdays on the trip. Wednesday was Tom Alderson's actual birthday. We are feeling very tired at the end of each day, but it is the exciting type of tired when you know you have accomplished alot under sometimes difficult circumstances. The Jamaican people are so appreciative and patient with us. We are the ones being blessed!
